Dublin, 24 October 2006: Dr Pat Frain, Director of NovaUCD, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at UCD, has been elected Chair of the Council of AURIL (Association of University Research and Industry Links). AURIL is the professional association representing Knowledge Transfer practitioners in the UK and Ireland. Dr Frain becomes the first representative of a University from the Republic of Ireland to Chair the Council since AURIL was founded in 1995.

| Call for research organisations to work together to meet globalisation challenge | |

The Research Councils, which collectively invest over £2.5bn a year in cutting-edge research, will call today for the UK’s research organisations to pull together in a concerted effort to meet the challenges of the global economy. Speaking at a conference for leading industrialists and academics this afternoon (28 September, 15.15), Professor Philip Esler, the Research Councils UK (RCUK) lead on economic impact, will argue that Government, research funders, universities, RDAs and businesses need to work in unison if the UK is to effectively realise the economic and social potential of its world-leading academic research.
