KT Qualifications
The Postgraduate Certificate in Knowledge Transfer is an Open University award for professionals working in the area of knowledge transfer. The course is for managers who deal with knowledge in a variety of organisational contexts ranging from multinationals, small and medium-sized businesses to the public sector and charities. In an increasingly inter-connected world, knowing how to manage knowledge to meet new opportunities and challenges is becoming a growing priority for practising managers, and this course covers the essential areas of importance to them.
Current students are exploring the activity of managing knowledge from different perspectives and applying them within their own professional context. It provides them with conceptual frameworks, practical management tools and guidelines within a critical framework for effective and ethical management of knowledge, intellectual capital, brands and other intangible assets.
Students first take a 30 credit course B823 Managing Knowledge from the OU Business School masters programme, then a 30 credit work-based project developed by AURIL is implemented in the student’s own organisation where a 6,000 word report is submitted.
Although the importance of knowledge to organisations has been recognised for many years, B823 Managing Knowledge represents a refocusing of managerial thought and practice. It takes a broad view of the subject that includes communication, sense-making, learning, intangible assets, human resources, organisational knowledge and knowledge technologies. Knowledge creation, situated in a local context, is related to international interconnectedness and globalisation. By the end of the course, students should be able to differentiate between simplistic knowledge management 'solutions' and the process of knowing how to 'make a difference' and the practice of power, which lies at the heart of effective management.
Those who have passed the course are eligible to use PG Cert KT (Open) after their name.
The vast majority of students have also been promoted as a result of their raised profile in undertaking the course.
