Innovation Gateway & GAIN

This strategically important post sits within the Research & Innovation (R&I) Directorate and reports to the Head of the Innovation Gateway. The post has two important facets, namely, the provision of specialist Intellectual Property (IP) knowledge, advice and expertise in support of the University's research portfolio and student enterprise, and working with Frontier IP Group plc (the University's strategic IP commercialisation partner) to translate the University's research results into commercial income streams and for the wider public benefit.

The delivery and development of a comprehensive, customer focused, cost effective and progressive IP service supports the GAIN agenda and will continue to influence the direction of the emerging IP Strategy and related policies.

This post forms part of a small, commercially focused, function within the R&I team, working through established IP Commercialisation Committee structures and other specialist advisors, transacting business through the University's wholly owned trading subsidiary - University of Plymouth Enterprise Limited (UoPEL). You will be expected to negotiate directly on 'spin-out, spin-in’ and license/assignment matters and to act as the University's agent for all such matters.

Typically, the role will involve working with researchers to maximise the impact potential of their research strands, providing timely IP advice and input to research bids, whilst having responsibility for the University's IP governance procedures and ensuring that appropriate due-diligence and risk mitigation has been considered in the negotiation, execution and closure of commercial deals.

You will be qualified to at least graduate level and have demonstrable experience of IP contract negotiation and drafting together with experience of working in a high throughput administrative environment and possess excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
